Flight Notes:
Laura gets to teach me lazy 8s! (Formerly chandelles, but the ceilings look a little low) (David Thorburn-Gundlach)

From KJZP (Pickens County (GA)) 2014-09-06 21:01:03 to KJZP (Pickens County (GA)) 2014-09-06 21:15:06 [00:14:00] with 1 day and 0 night landings.
David Thorburn-Gundlach (pilot-L) / Laura Thorburn-Gundlach (copilot) /
Leg Notes:
We replaced the oil pressure regulator last week, and we're none too sure about this pressure reading. A takeoff for departure turns into once around the pattern -- which is totally fine with me :-)
All was lovelily smooth except that I was in too close and overshot my turn to final; dang. That was easily enough rectified, though, and I lined up for a nice and stable approach -- except that the descending runway tricked me and I touched down three feet too early! Arrrgh. Still, it was quite nice for not having flown in a month!
Then it was off to chat with Garrett, including a circle around the taxiway while Laura went to look him up.

Leg Notes:
Assured that all is well (although we might turn it down half a tick the next time the lid is off), off we went to practice our lazy 8s. There was rain around, however, and building, so in the end we decided to call it a day and turn back before things got messy.
We pulled a straight-in glide just for fun, but ran out of altitude just short of the runway and had to add power. [There's some question of whether or not adding a dash of flaps would have gotten us to the edge; I think if it were real I could have done it without a crash, but I bet we would have hit the grass before the threshold!]
This landing was much nicer, with excellent flare and good altitude, but I didn't quite get straight before touching. Dang again! But, all in all, quite a lovely day!
