Leg Notes:
We're FINALLY back up in the air! It has been so crazy long. First we had a dead battery (yes, again), and then after it had miraculously come to life for Garrett it was dead again for us last week (but in front of him thsi time :-) Now we have a new battery and by God we're going again.
First we headed over to the race track to practice how we would take photos. There isn't much room in front of the strut, but keeping it behind the strut then puts us at a weird angle. I seriously need more practice at this :-) I think it's also better to shoot through the open window from the back seat, though, so we'll give that a shot next time.
Off we went next with no particular destination. We skipped KGVL and headed over the lake to enjoy the water. We saw what looks like a ski course; interesting! Then we took a turn past the dam and headed back.
I decided to practice my pilotage and just wing it and picked a course of 310 or so. That was pretty good, actually; I'm delighted! :-)
Yes, home is now KJZP; we love KCNI, but we're gonna support this little airport for a while. So let's get to know this one... North was still good, and I had plenty of altitude, so I crossed over and hooked an ampersand onto the downwind leg.
It was a good setup, and I was dialed in when I crossed the numbers, but I suddenly sped up after the turn from base to final. WTF? Arrrrgh; I'll have to work on that. But the approach was otherwise good, and I rode 'er all the way down and bled off the speed, and although the landing was a thunk rather than a kiss it was straight and there was no bounce, so I'm still pretty happy with that after a couple of weeks off. And we're back on the schedule for getting going anyway; woo hoo!
