Laura flew us over -- after I hand-propped Penny again. Curiously, it took many more turns this time; I was in fact about to give up and on my last try when she caught. What was the difference? Hmmm...
Took Garrett up for a test flight so he could see what she's doing. It's a bit like driving a crooked bicycle or grocery cart; it's easier to do while very definitely looking away! :-) After a few ball-in and ball-out experiments and some level flight vs yoke-straight vs let-her-fall runs, we turned back for him to work his magic.
Came I wasn't far off of a straight-in final, so I just headed for lining up while trying to find a 152 that was supposedly on downwind. Kept going and then came back to the right while waiting and looking, since he said he was on base, but we sure couldn't find him. Then, suddenly, he was down and clear. Um, when did you call final, mister? At last, I could finally line up and land!

Had to borrow the car and pop out to lunch with Mom while Garrett poked at Penny; he flew her afterwards and confirmed that she's 99% now (but we'll just have to fine-tune over time). The handles, one of which had popped off again, are now quite firmly on again and lined up properly; yay.
Good thing there was a huge mix-up at work and I with many others was accidentally deleted and could only work via phone & BB email anyway, because all of this sure took a long time!
I'm glad our battery is juiced up again, because it was quite sobering to see a guy who had just been whacked in the head while trying to start his plane -- and the chunk out of the wooden prop, and even bigger crack along the prop, that his head caused! Urk. At first he was just going to call his wife; then he agreed to let the ambulance continue to give him a once-over; when I was walking past again the EMT's suggestion was to let them take him in to patch him up; and then suddenly the AirLife heli is coming in and we're dancing around with it as it stops off and then went past us right by KCNI! Wow. Yes, I really would rather *not* have to do this often even if I do know how; apparently hand-propping is the norm on that guy's plane, so far from his first time, and yet he conked himself. [I wonder if considerations are any different because it's a pusher prop and you're on the back side...]
And, so, off we went, setting up for a looooooong final to give room to the AirLife copter, for quite a lovely 'nother short run and eager anticipation for tomorrow's trip. Woo hoo!
