Laura was tired enough that we didn't foggle me, so this was just an ordinary VFR ride home. Like 'ordinary' is anything bad, right? :-)
We started out in the lower end of the Shenandoah Valley area, I think; we were between some beautiful mountains over gorgeous valley and it was all AWESOME! We headed up to about 6500 for a lovely ride and great view.
Another nice thing about simple VFR was ... no re-routing :-) Aside from dodging the occasional mountain or cloudbank, we just went straight there, which left time for sightseeing. Yay.
This was another regional airport, and after a simple approach and landing I had to find my way around the corner to the FBO rather than playing where the jets are. Once there, I saw a red carpet still out on the tarmac, so I pulled up to it so that Laura could disembark in style! We all stretched and emptied while I had gas added, and then it was time say adieu to another fun stopover.

All too soon, we're on our last leg of the trip! Awww... This was another VFR straight run over more very pretty countryside; yes, IFR is awesome, too, but VFR is so beautiful!
We went for 8500 this time to get around more mountains. Surprisingly, although it was admittedly a warm-ish day and we were certainly full, Penny had to work to get up there and stay that high; we spent the whole trip pretty much at full throttle. Weird... Usually she has a bit left in her; we'll have to play with that a bit more and see if there was something atypical.
Soon we were passing by familiar airports, getting back into our regular play area, and then I was able to start picking out things by eye even before checking them on the chart and the GPS. Fun :-)
We started our descent about 15 min and 30 mi out, riding the glide down through the smooth to go pretty quickly; yee ha. We only cut our speed about halfway through the descent time, or about two thirds in, and then set up for an approach over the tanks and a downwind entry to be polite about things rather than coming straight in.
I am delighted to report that, despite transitioning from a couple of hours of cruise and our mid-downwind entry from the tank side, the landing was by the book and even had a nicely-shaped pattern. Whew! I wasn't too sure how that was going to work out, given my hit-or-miss performance recently; I'll take it :-)
