Flight: 2010-1101-1 in N37148 (BlueBird) for $
KGVL - KCNI (flying time 0:28)
Back from a morning hop over to Sensenich in Gainesville to have a look at our rear prop bulkhead (where, of course, we find that it's so much more than just that...).
From KGVL (Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport) 2010-11-01 15:40:54 to KCNI (Cherokee County Municipal Airport) 2010-11-01 16:09:11 [00:28:00] with 1 day and 0 night landings.
David Thorburn-Gundlach (pilot-L) / Laura Thorburn-Gundlach (copilot) /
It was a smooth flight over, and the new DG seems to perform well, so I guess that question is answered. KTAS adjustment works now, too; yay!
Just as we were crossing the lake someone small flew under us without a peep; the Zaon didn't even see it. It looked sleek and fast enough to have electronics, but maybe the pilot wanted it quiet. Sure, it was mebbe 2000 feet under us, but that was still closer than I'd like to see; he was literally right under me for a moment. Yow!
Then came the lovely rest of the flight. For fun I did it entirely by eye, aiming for the witch's hat peak, and came in exactly right for a landing on 4 (although it could also have just been a base and long final to 22). That was fun; I like knowing where I am, even if it was Laura who picked out the runway first.
Came in with flaps again, and still it isn't quite perfect. The approach is better, though; stay freakin' high all the way around to final and don't bring in the last two notches until I'm lined up. Hey, it sounds funny, but when I do that I can point just right and fly her all the way down ... or try to before I flare early out of old habit, anyway :-)
