Flight: 2009-1020-1 in N37148 (BlueBird) for $
KCNI - KRYY (flying time 0:31)
Off to H&L at KRYY to get new tires, work on that pesky sump in the right wing and get an opinion on the sump fitting leak.
Fairly straightforward flight, but we did play with testing a 180 degree turn with no engine. I tried the first one, riding the stall horn at best glide, and lost about 375 ft; call it 500 for good measure. For fun,Yanek tried a very steep turn which did indeed get us pointing the other way in a minimum "lateral" x translation but which cost a bit over 700 feet. Lessons learned: 1) do not even try if you are not at least 500 feet up; 2) better to take your time and turn gently and catch that breath while you try to get lined up again.
After that fun :-) we dashed straight to H&L. When we got there, not only did they confirm that it is the tank but recommend not flying with it as it is, so it turned into a one-way trip and we hitched a ride with Woody back to 47A and the car. In the end, it turned out that they will do the whole annual.
