From KCNI (Cherokee County Municipal Airport) 2014-04-10 23:02:21 to KGVL (Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport) 2014-04-10 23:40:58 [00:38:00] with 1 day and 0 night landings.
David Thorburn-Gundlach (pilot-L) / Madi Thorburn-Gundlach (passenger) / Sujay Iyengar (passenger) /
Leg Notes:
*sigh* First of all, we have to fake the hobbs numbers again, 'cuz apparently it's dead, Jim. Bleah.
Anyway, this is Sujay's first flight *and* on camera, so we will definitely go through the preflight & safety briefing. Except that there wasn't much battery or flash RAM space, so it wasn't as detailed as it should have been. Oh, well :-)
Surprise! Laura got out before we left because she wasn't sure of the W&B. Well, yes, that's the more conservative thing to do, so I didn't argue beyond confirming that she felt firmly, but on the other hand I had done a rough W&B as a matter of course... [Doing the exact math later, BTW, showed us still 25lbs light, which is about what I had figured in my head. Hah! but agreed that her choice was safest.]
First we flew over to Cambridge High School so that they could get a shot of the grounds and stadium. After a turn around the campus, we headed over to the lake to see the dam and then up to Gainesville for a pass.
Sujay took the briefing to heart, staying aware of our surroundings, and even spotted a plane below us as we were nearing the airport. Great job, Sujay!
Traffic was light, so we in fact went ahead and landed. After a nice downwind and the always-fun challenge of base around the chimney & water tower, I settled in for ... a drop-in landing. Arrrgh! No, not bad, but not my best, either *sigh*

Leg Notes:
Off we went back to Cherokee -- and hoofing it, too, since we had been out a while. We again called for Flight Following, and I heard ATC being bored and asking to help a guy practice approaches :-) When I rang him up I asked if he'd like to set us up for the KCNI NDB approach, so he did, but when we changed sectors I just turned for basically a 10nm left base leg for home :-)
All in all, a great trip and a chance to share aviation with a newbie, and we'll see how the documentary turns out.
